Bulaccino is a family run business combining the western ideals of comfort and cleanliness with true Fijian hospitality. Born in Fiji as a member of the Chute family from Udu Point, Vanua Levu, Bulaccino’s founder Eileen lived and travelled extensively abroad for 30 years covering the Caribbean, Europe and SE Asia before moving back to Fiji.
Eileen’s husband Adriaan is Dutch. Eldest son Dirk is the General Manager and a qualified Cordon Bleu Chef. Eldest daughter Emma is a Cordon Bleu Pastry Chef, who lives with her Danish husband Jakob and their twin boys in Dubai. They contribute to Bulaccino with wonderful suggestions for different pastries & breads.
Fiona the second daughter and her husband Harley were instrumental in setting up the Café with Eileen. The Bulaccino name was Harley’s brilliant idea! Harley an Fiona are currently working overseas but remain very much part of the Bulaccino team.
Then there’s young Benjamin who is a constant source of ideas for great smoothies and cakes, including the “Bulanolia” cupcake name!
We can safely say that the family’s combined passion for good food and coffee and the distinct lack thereof in Fiji ultimately culminated in the birth of Bulaccino in May 2006.
Following the success and popularity of the flagship Nadi Cafe, Bulaccino Suva opened in July 2007.
The Nadi kitchen soon became too small to produce cakes and pastries for the various locations as well as handle the in-house menu! Consistency is a vital part of the Bulaccino product so the decision was taken to open a gourmet bakery next door to the flagship cafe in Nadi.
The bakery is called ‘Nutmeg & Tulips’. While providing the Bulaccino cafes with a delicious range of treats and breads, Nutmeg & Tulips also does offsite catering and has its own independent shopfront.
Two coffee counters have been opened in the Tappoo Department Stores in Sigatoka and Nadi to give travellers the chance to relax with a Bulaccino treat before continuing on their way. |
